Mercury Filling Removal / Rubber Dam

Rubber dam is a specialized sheet of plastic used for isolation of one or more impaired teeth. It is an essential part of cosmetic and other procedures in dentistry. Unfortunately very few dentists use it. Dr.Kafayi uses it routinely. To name a few benefits, Rubber Dam prevents ingestion of Mercury while amalgam (silver) filings are being removed. It also prevents recontamination by saliva of prepared and disinfected teeth before the new restoration is bonded. In cosmetic and some other procedures, lack of its use is substandard care. The pictures show Rubber Dam application during a CEREC procedure.

All Photos are of an actual patient of Dr. Kafayi.
